I started a new project this week. Writing every day for November reminded me how much I love creative work (the invisible kind I do at school, but also the kinds with more concrete outcomes), so over the weekend I bought a sketchbook. It’s my first sketchbook since high school, and I’m nervous each time I mark a blank page, limiting its formerly boundless potential. But it’s also really exciting! I’m practicing paying attention to detail when I draw faces, drawing with my eyes not my brain, and relaxing enough to capture blurry, moving subjects. I’ve been filling about half a page each day, so hopefully in 10 weeks I’ll be uploading a few highlights from the completed book.
My kanban had lots of intentions to draw, write, dye cloth, paint murals, and design space improvement projects this week (along with the usual “practice headstand,” “do Duolingo,” and “read about Angler fish on The Oatmeal with Ash”). Maybe it’s just because I’m in a creative space, but I also saw the kids coming up with more projects this week! Jack’s designing a box and a frame in the woodshop; Lescot is building a Minecraft adventure map (with Luca and Ryan and Adin); Thanos came up with two clubs to propose next week; Douglas is designing a board game; Luca updated our Gameshifting Board…Lots being generated right now 🙂 Can’t wait to see what progress we make in the coming weeks!
And I always love going home with color-stained hands!
